What Is Musical Harmony?

Music is the science of arranging sounds in harmonic time according to the components of harmony, melody, timing, and tone. It is probably one of the oldest universal cultural influences of all human cultures. It can be heard in all cultures around the world. It has also been described as the language of the soul. In some ways it is even more important than language in determining how humans express their culture and their feelings.

In a word, music is an expression of our feelings and emotions. Music can be both simple and complex; it can express sorrow or happiness, pain or pleasure, love or hate. It can even be very fast or very slow, in tempo and range or in pitch. It is performed by instruments such as pianos, synthesizers, digital and analog audio samplers, voice synthesizers, and other electronic equipment.

Music composers are those who arrange the Music. Music composers use tonal contrasts, rhythmic and harmonious patterns, textures, harmonies, and articulation structures to create a melody. A melody is a combination of independent sounds coming together to form a melody or a beat. The basic components of a melody are harmony (timbre and harmony), rhythm (rhythms and cadence), and melody (the separate notes that comprise the melody).

The elements of a melody are: rhythm, harmony, tonality, texture, timing, articulation, or structure (how the parts are joined together). A harmony is a collection of pitch tones that coordinate each other. Rhythms are recurring patterns of sound, which the musician uses to guide the melody. Tonality is the variation of tone of one voice against another. The most widely used tonal qualities are warm, cool, fruity, light, dark, or fresh.

The musical elements that make up a melody are usually distinguished by the time and or place they appear in a composition. Timbre is what gives the listener distinguishable voices and a sense of pitch. Rhythm is also usually found in melodic passages, where it adds to the texture of the melody. Tonality comes between tempo and rhythm.

Music theory provides a very detailed but simple definition of what music is. Basically, music consists of a combination of sounds that can be arranged so that the listeners can enjoy the sounds they hear. Music has evolved over time and there are many genres. In the Western tradition, popular music is defined by the use of a metrical framework to express the melody and harmony of a song. It includes rhythm and key, which can be thought of as the same thing but in reverse. The definition of this type of music will be explained further in future articles.
